Insider Dining Tips
•Obi Restaurant Sushi Sense Guide
•Start with the daily special nigiri to gauge the freshness of Obi's fish — Cape Town's sushi insiders always ask what arrived that morning.
•Share plates among the table, alternating between raw and cooked items to experience Obi's full Japanese repertoire.
•Order vegetarian options (like avocado maki and vegetable tempura) alongside fish dishes for texture variety and palate cleansing.
•Trust the chef with an "omakase" option — Obi's kitchen will curate a personalized selection based on the day's best offerings.
•Save soy sauce for appropriate dishes — at Obi, many plates come with house-crafted sauces that shouldn't be overpowered.
•Place your chopsticks parallel across your plate or on the rest when not eating — never stick them upright in rice (considered bad luck).
Insider Tip
•Tuesday nights feature half-price selected maki rolls with any sake purchase — the perfect introduction to Obi's menu for newcomers.
