Banana Leaf Sappadu with Shankar R Santhiram in Durban, South Africa. On popular demand, acclaimed Malaysian Tamil chef Shankar R. Santhiram , of Fire by Shankar in Penang, Malaysia, brings his celebrated Malaysian Tamil Sappadu to the beautiful city of Durban. Shankar will prepare and serve a traditional "Valla Yellai Sappadu" (banana leaf meal), much like his popular Sunday Sappadu in Penang, Malaysia. It will be a generous multi-dish “Virunthu” (feast) . The menu will showcase the rich diversity of Malaysian Tamil cuisine, including Kulambhu, Varuval, Peratal, Poriyal , and Kootu —each dish deeply rooted in tradition and flavour. The Banana Leaf Sappadu will be served in the old-school Tamil Virunthu style. Long shared tables, free seating, first come first served, and a fixed menu. At the time of booking, please specify if your booking is for the vegetarian or non-vegetarian Sappadu. No special requests. Please note that vegetarians will be seated on separate tables. So, for mixed booking parties with vegetarians and non-vegetarians, you will be separated in the dining hall.
